Honeycomb Thistle
The inside of the card

Honeycomb Thistle

Description

A thistle flower head is cut out of honeycomb paper and the leaves made from hologram paper. It is mounted inside the card so when the card is opened the honeycomb paper makes a 3D thistle.

Materials used

  • A sheet of cream card folded in half to create a greetings card 104mm wide x 152mm high (4¼ ins x 6 ins)
  • Yellow/green duo colour honeycomb paper
  • Blue honeycomb paper
  • Green hologram paper
  • Pritt Stick adhesive

Method

Using the template below as a guide, draw the shape of the top of the thistle flower on the blue honeycomb paper and cut it out with scissors. This will be half of the full flower shape with one straight edge. The full flower will be revealed when the card is opened (rather like a Christmas decoration).

Paste one side of the blue honeycomb flower top and mount it in position in the inside of the card. The straight edge should sit against the centre fold of the card.

Paste one side of the yellow/green honeycomb flower base and position this below the blue flower.

Paste the other side of both pieces of honeycomb paper and close the card on them. When the card is opened the 3D flower will be revealed.

Add a strip of green hologram paper below the flower to make a stem. The hologram paper has a peel-off self-adhesive backing.

Product availability

We regret that we are unable to advise the reader of a source of supply for the materials used in the projects on the Card Making Inspirations web site.

The layouts and techniques used in these projects are timeless. However, products such as stamps, stickers and patterned papers are quickly discontinued to be replaced by new items. When this happens we suggest that there is a lot of satisfaction in finding an alternative product that suits the design.
